Dad recently had the chance to take a trip of a lifetime to the Mecca of all Boys Scouts -- Philmont Scout Ranch in Cimarron, NM. Now Will absolutely loves Philmont, and with good reason; it is a spectacularly beautiful place, high up in the Rockies. You have to be invited by a Scout Executive in order to attend this event, so Dad was honored to have the chance to go. Combined with the fact that some of his best Scouting buddies were along for the ride, it was a great trip.

The first night began with Philmont's famous Buffalo BBQ. It was "outstanding."

Dad's room for the first night. Now, Mom is suspicious because this doesn't look at ALL like the canvas wall tent we stayed in at Philmont when we went in 1996. Hmmmm. Dad says that Philmont STAFF get these cabins, and their family can come too, so Mom says he can be on staff any time he wants to! (note the "real" bathroom in the background)

The famous Tooth of Time, a Philmont landmark.

This beautiful meadow was just part of the amazing scenery around Philmont. Now imagine a huge elk wandering through this meadow to within 50 yards of you...

A beautiful rainbow trout.

A cool brook trout.

One of the "Red Roof Inns" located at Philmont. Guess what a Philmont Red Roof Inn is??? (see below)

Ta da! Mom says there is NO WAY she would be using one of these!

Dad fishing his heart out. Needless to say, he had a blast.

Caught on film: Will went shopping! The Philmont Trading Post was happy to see him stop there :)
