We had a busy weekend, the boys and Dad participated in the American Cancer Society Relay for Life to raise funds for cancer research. The Troop has done this event for several years, it started as a service project where the scouts set up the luminaria around the track, but the boys had so much fun they wanted to put together a relay team. So the tradition was born, and for 18 hours the scouts took turns walking around the track in 1-hour shifts. Michelle came over for awhile to bring homemade cinnamon rolls, hang out, walk, and gab with her friend Elizabeth, whose son, Aidan, was the team's official "Survivor" (leukemia as a toddler).
Cameron and Wesley on the track.
Dad and the gang setting up the word "HOPE" in luminaria on the bleachers. They lit them after dark and it was awesome!
Wesley next to two of the luminaria that our family bought. We did bags for G.G. Wyma Gauche, Aunt Dot, and Fishin' Grandma, Marge Crow.
The bottoms of our shoes turned red from the track :)
The Troop 148 "camp."
The troop lead all of the walkers on the final lap Saturday morning. Having the scouts at this event has become such a tradition that the Relay for Life organizers now refer to them as "our Troop" :)
Today the boys participated in a flag demonstration commemorating Flag Day at a local Senior living community. They did a flag ceremony, then folded a flag while Wesley spoke a piece about what each fold stands for. Everyone had a great time and the audience was very kind!
