Life has been busy but fun at the Nichols' house. Starting with Labor Day weekend. We decided not to go to family camp this year, too many weeks this summer were spent out of town and we were craving an in-town weekend. So Mom and Dad promised not to spend all weekend doing chores, and we went to a movie (Fly Me to the Moon), ate out for a couple of dinners (Ice Harbor Brew Pub and Casa Mia), and went minititure golfing!
The boys love this sport, and there is a great 18 hole course nearby.
Dad and his golfers had a great time.
Mom and the golfers enjoyed it too! We decided that staying in town for Labor Day should be a new family tradition.
Last weekend Cameron had his first team-based out-of-classroom project to get done - making homemade salsa for Spanish class :) He and his partner Lenny had to make salsa from their chosen country of Uruguay. Thank goodness for the internet! We found a great recipe called Salsa Salu, and it turned out awesome. Wesley can vouch for it, he ate most of what came home :)
This past Monday our Boy Scout earned the rank of Second Class Scout and had his award presented to him at a Court of Honor.
Among other things, to earn Second Class Cameron had to do a 5 mile hike using map and compass, go on five Troop camp outs, show use and care of a knife, axe, and saw, build a cooking fire, demonstrate safe use of camp stoves, show evidence of 10 kinds of animals (eeeew), lots of first aid, pass a beginner swim test, and demonstrate water rescue methods.
Today was lots of fun, we went to a 40th birthday party for our friend, Richard Melendy. Now Richard is a professional clown (apart from his day job as a teacher), so you can imagine that this was a fun party. It ended with a whipped cream pie fight! Cameron and Wesley were only too eager to participate :)
Cameron volunteered to be the demonstration dummy :)
Pretty nice, huh?
Wesley stayed clean a long time!
Then Wesley got cornered and got one in the face (and ear)!
Mmmm, would you let him ride home in YOUR car? Thank goodness Mr. Melendy had some rags and buckets of water!
