Nanni Visit and Empty Nest

We just put Nanni on the train back to Eugene after a terrific week at our house. We lazed around, swam in the pool, shopped for bargains, visited, hung out, and visited some more. It was a great time!

Cameron learned how to do some cake decorating thanks to Nanni's expertise.

Wes enjoyed the decorating as well, a skill he is happy to add to his chef-in-training skills.

The boys learned how to fill the frosting bag, make stars, make shell borders, and even attempted a couple of flowers.

Not only did we put Nanni on the train this morning, we put Cameron and Wesley on board with her! Yes, they are off for a week at the grandparent's house and are they ever excited :) First train ride and first week by themselves with Nanni and Bubba. They can't wait.

Mom and Dad also get a week of empty nest! Mom has already decided that it is a good thing God gives us 18 years instead of only 10 or 12 years with the kids, and I imagine that teenagerhood helps with the separation, because right now I miss them! Strange to have Dad home but the kids gone - usually its dad and kids gone at the same time. Mom and Dad have planned a couple of dinners out, maybe a movie, some quality time to talk and visit, and maybe even a couple of chores early in the week. We might even go shopping together without anyone waiting for us at home! This is the empty nest trial run...
