The boys had a most interesting opportunity to meet a four-day old Falcon today. Signe has a friend named Jim who is a falconer, and he had an egg hatch this past week! We were invited to see the new baby when Jim brought him to Signe's for a visit. Wow, who would ever dream that we'd be holding a baby bird of prey? It turns out that Jim is also a freind of Mrs. Strong, Cameron's teacher, and he had visited Cameron's class earlier this year, so he and Cameron already knew each other.

Jim was so nice, he even let us feed the bird. The boys watched as he chopped up a quail heart and small bone (baby birds need calcium too), then we got the feed the baby using tweezers. Wow!

We learned that Jim lets the hens brood the eggs for about the first 8-10 days, then he moves them to an incubator. He has three pairs of nesting birds, and we've been invited to visit someday soon to see how the baby grows, and to see his other falcons. What an amazing experience!
